NYC Throwback: The Darby
When you walk into The Darby, you’re greeted with a lively, swanky, opulent and sophisticated scene. I could totally see Don Draper (from Mad Men) sipping on a cocktail, feasting on oysters while leaning back in one of the posh red banquettes.
The live music is reason enough to go. The band was terrific. All throughout dinner we grooved to classic soul hits like Outstanding, Respect and All I Do. They even threw in a reggae set.
The retro-inspired supper club/speakeasy is about an all encompassing experience- live music, american fare and old-school glamour.
The new American menu focuses on the classics- Shrimp Cocktail, Oysters Rockefeller, Steak Tartare, Lamb and an extensive raw bar. The food was pretty good. I wouldn’t go back just for the food but like I said, it’s about the entire experience. And I would definitely go back for that!
Crab Cakes- Standard.
Grilled Octopus- A well balanced dish.
Oysters Rockefeller- I’ve had better.
Grilled Striped Bass- Well prepared.
Lamb- It was a bit fatty but the flavors were good.
Mac & Cheese- AMAZING!!!!
THE SWEET SPOT:
I wasn’t a big fan of the desserts.
Darby Sundae- Great presentation.
Darby Cake Of The Day
Dark Chocolate & Walnut Torte
SIP: A couple bottles of champagne and a few cocktails.
CHAT: It was a fun night- celebrating my girl, Julie’s birthday! We bumped into a few friends, and my twin sister saw her old boss, Tyra. We chatted with her for a bit- she looked great. After dinner, we continued with the old-school glam theme and headed over to the Boom Boom Room.
