I Opt For Co-Op Food & Drink
The new resto housed in the Hotel on Rivington, Co-Op Food and Drink has been pimped out! Hopefully all the bells and whistles prove to be the x-factor for success (because this wasn’t the case for its predecessors). It’s a creation from the Guerrilla Culinary Brigade, best-known for hosting pop-up dinners. They created a resto that delivers an experience for the senses- palate, personality and pop tunes -it’s the ultimate dinner party.
The New American menu spans the globe with a skew towards asian fusion and sushi. Le Bernardin alum, John Keller is at the helm, while Stephen Wong, formerly of Sushi of Gari, covers the sushi. They present us with bold flavors and creative executions via shareable plates. Every palate will be duly served.
The decor is just as bold as the dishes! The cool vibe releases a clubby aura that is manufactured from the glam-rock retro feel…….cool photos of NYC icons (Betsey Johnson and Moby) lace the dining room walls, a glass-covered ceiling, gold-mirror-tiled bar, leather booths, and an upbeat playlist of hits. Scenesters won’t be disappointed.
There are so many options on the menu that I already have a list of things to try next time- Truffle Mac & Cheese, Sliders, Tacos, Scallops and Bone Marrow.
Truffle Popcorn – A nice treat to tee off the meal.
Baby Octopus Salad with White Beans- Perfect texture.
Chicken Satay- Crispy coating in a peanut sauce with a nice kick…. this hit the spot!
Lobster shots with Chunks of Lobster- Foam never taste so good! One of my faves.
Eel with Avocado and Rice- Delish…one of the best eel dishes I’ve had.
Yellowtail Sushi- Brushed with a garlic soy sauce…average.
Co-Op Roll- Spicy Tuna topped with Rock Shrimp Tempura- Full of flavor.
Kimchi Roll- Sweet Shrimp & Crab Topped with Red Snapper- Light and tasty.
Peking Duck Steamed Buns- Huge disappointment. The buns were soggy and the duck was fatty.
Amazu Ponzu White Fish Tempura- Ah-ma-zing….another fave! The fish was crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside with a bold ponzu sauce that was out of this world!
Rose- Wolffer Vineyard South Fork Long Island, NY 2010
The Sweet Spot:
The desserts were on point!
Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches
