I checked out Ken & Cook during private previews last week with a crew of good friends. It’s unanimous- this is a spot for the scene and cuisine!
The American Brasserie has a great vibe…the exposed brick, sleek bar display, airy feel, and downstairs lounge makes for Nolita’s latest HOT SPOT!
Richard Diamonte, a Jean-Georges alum (former executive sous-chef) delivers a wide-range of American classics with a unique touch. We had a tasting of the entire menu and I was impressed.

One part bar/lounge and one part resto equals The Churchill! Arriving close to 9p for a Girl’s Night Out pre-party meal, we quickly dove into a myriad of cocktails, and before we knew it yummy dishes were en route to our table. As soon as we downed the first round of oysters, the upstairs dining room was filled with party-goers ready for a good time grooving to beats from the DJ.
Don’t expect a gourmet meal at this modern gastropub….go for the DJ, cocktails and noshing!

Only in MePa could you find a resto stocked with wine-filled vending machines. Vinatta Project (Mulberry Project’s sister resto) delivers Haute vibes! It’s perfect for large groups.
Even though I was a die-hard Florent fan, Vinatta Project doesn’t disappoint as the new resident of the space. There’s a wonderful selection of creative small plates (great for sharing) and divine cocktails crafted by skilled mixologists. They ask you what you like, and create an original cocktail for you.

An UES Jewel- Crown

The UES just got a bit hipper now that Chef and Restauranteur John DeLucie is in the hood. Crown is housed in a plush townhouse that exudes sexy. As soon as you arrive, you’re drawn in by the long zinc-topped bar, perfectly dim lighting, and well mixed cocktails. And this is just the beginning! The elegant and well dressed dining room has a clubby-lounge feel where distinct, stylish accents like crown molding, leather banquettes and wood-paneled walls really round things out. There’s a level of sophistication that’s apparent and it goes beyond the mature crowd. It’s definitely worth the schlep uptown especially to catch a glimpse of the private dining room tucked away behind a swinging bookcase on the lower level.
Chef John DeLucie delivers a well balanced menu of American classics- oysters, caviar, seafood, pasta dishes and meat favorites. We sampled a broad selection of items and were quite satisfied.

Sons of Essex Has Swagger

The Lower East Side has a new resident “hot spot” and it goes by the name of Sons of Essex. Don’t be confused when you approach the resto and a doorman in a fully functional deli greets you. Once you enter, all roads lead to a swanky, rustic, saloon-like speakeasy resto, lounge and bar. The decor is very reminiscent of a scene from HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire”. The wooden pillars, old photos, and bookshelves stocked with knick-knacks, books and canisters generates a retro-den feel.
The vibe is amazing, and much of that can be attributed to the dope soundtrack. Hip Hop classics keeps the crowd grooving while noshing and sipping. They kick things up a notch Thursday through Saturday with a live DJ rocking from the pit (sunken lounge area).
The menu is filled with American comfort food classics such as grilled cheese, ribs, lobster pot pie and mac & cheese laced with global seasonings and a creative twist.
