As I walked into Aldea, I felt as though I was at a friend’s home awaiting a lovely dinner party. The low lighting, clean lines and relaxed atmosphere really sets the tone for an intimate evening. Oh, and they’ll seat you even if your entire party isn’t there. This is a rare occurrence in NYC.
You can see Chef George Mendes in action by requesting a table with a view into the open kitchen. This is where he constructs a great representation of new and traditional fine Portuguese dishes.

Jean Georges delivers yet another gem, and this time it’s housed in the fabulous ABC Carpet with a farm-to-table theme. Food and shopping is a heavenly duo in my book so I applaud this partnership! Any meal at ABC Kitchen is worth having but today we’ll focus on lunch.
The rustic, chic dining room is reminiscent of a Nappa Valley experience. Everything from the chandeliers, to wooden accents, and antique china added to the modern and stylish decor. Jean Georges hits the mark on everything – perfect execution, flavors and creativity. ABC Kitchen is simply divine and gets an A+! It’s a Sip, Chat, Chow fave because I always have a spectacularly delicious meal here- and it’s not terribly expensive!

I love things and places that refer to the number 2 because I’m a twin, so I was excited to try Duo (especially because the owners are sisters). I didn’t really see the “Duo” theme in the decor or on the menu (there were a couple of references to the preparation of dishes but that was it). Everything about Duo screams glamour, precision and detail (it’s a bit over-the-top). The large crystal chandelier in the main dining room, a miniature posh chair for your handbag, menus that light up, ornate pieces, and superb service. The servers were on point, and all courses were delivered in unison.
The menu is pretty broad delivering solid New American cuisine with a beautiful presentation. Duo is a good option for celebrations, girls night out, cocktails/apps, and perhaps a power lunch.
