I love things and places that refer to the number 2 because I’m a twin, so I was excited to try Duo (especially because the owners are sisters). I didn’t really see the “Duo” theme in the decor or on the menu (there were a couple of references to the preparation of dishes but that was it). Everything about Duo screams glamour, precision and detail (it’s a bit over-the-top). The large crystal chandelier in the main dining room, a miniature posh chair for your handbag, menus that light up, ornate pieces, and superb service. The servers were on point, and all courses were delivered in unison.
The menu is pretty broad delivering solid New American cuisine with a beautiful presentation. Duo is a good option for celebrations, girls night out, cocktails/apps, and perhaps a power lunch.
Raines Law Room is a low-key, intimate secret lounge serving perfectly prepared classic cocktails courtesy of rad mixologists. The Flatiron based speakeasy lives behind a discrete black door helmed by a doorman with a clipboard. Upon entering, you’re greeted with velvet couches, seductive dim lighting and your very own buzzer that’s used to call the waitress. There’s an outdoor courtyard sans buzzers but it’s cool during the warm weather months. Raines Law Room is perfect for date night, cocktails with the girls/guys or for anyone that just wants a damn good drink at a sexy spot! There’s definitely a high level of privacy here because the waitress only comes when she’s summoned by the buzzer!
The menu is pretty identical to BLT Steak but the big difference is in the ambiance. It’s modern with an intimate yet upbeat vibe- a welcomed departure from a traditional steakhouse. Two additional words that come to mind when thinking about last night’s experience- impeccable service!
BLT Prime offers the best in beef weaving in a few terrific non-beef options.
The bright and vivacious South American, Nuevo Latino resto is great for groups. It has a loft-like, clubby feel…and as you can see from the picture below, very fiery!
The eclectic, broad menu (primarily designed for sharing) offers great Modern Latin dishes that range from ceviche, to skewers, to empanadas, arepas, poached lobster, and a paella-type dish with duck. The portions are on the small side so order accordingly.
In no particular order, these were my top 15 spots (well, really 17…a mix of old and new) to Sip, Chat, & Chow this year. I’m sure I’ll be taking most of them into 2011.
