Sanaa Lathan recently wrapped “By The Way, Meet Vera Stark” and can be seen in the movie Contagion – the 2011 American thriller film directed by Steven Soderbergh. Next up is Vipaka, a Voodoo Psycho Thriller with Forest Whitaker and Anthony Mackie. Even though Sanaa has been extremely busy, she always finds time for a great dining experience.
I Opt For Co-Op Food & Drink

The new resto housed in the Hotel on Rivington, Co-Op Food and Drink has been pimped out! Hopefully all the bells and whistles prove to be the x-factor for success (because this wasn’t the case for its predecessors). It’s a creation from the Guerrilla Culinary Brigade, best-known for hosting pop-up dinners. They created a resto that delivers an experience for the senses- palate, personality and pop tunes -it’s the ultimate dinner party.
The New American menu spans the globe with a skew towards asian fusion and sushi. Le Bernardin alum, John Keller is at the helm, while Stephen Wong, formerly of Sushi of Gari, covers the sushi. They present us with bold flavors and creative executions via shareable plates. Every palate will be duly served.
The decor is just as bold as the dishes! The cool vibe releases a clubby aura that is manufactured from the glam-rock retro feel…….cool photos of NYC icons (Betsey Johnson and Moby) lace the dining room walls, a glass-covered ceiling, gold-mirror-tiled bar, leather booths, and an upbeat playlist of hits. Scenesters won’t be disappointed.

Bouley’s Brushstroke Is A Masterpiece

I was excited to check out David Bouley’s new seasonal Kyoto-style Japanese resto housed in the old Danube space. Dinner at Brushstroke was amazing- Chef Yamada definitely delivers! Creativity was in full effect- it was present in the food, cocktails and decor. The bar/lounge area houses a sick wall design- it’s made of 20,000 books! The clean lines and raw materials created an upscale zen-like atmosphere.
Brushstroke offers a 6 course tasting for $85 and a 10 course for $135 (both menus will change often)- we opted for the 10 course. Every course was on point, and some dishes were pretty terrific. The ingredients, execution, presentation and service were flawless. It was authentic with serious attention to detail, and a meticulous flow from course to course. Everything was well orchestrated, from the rotation of china to the actual distribution of dishes.

My twin sister and I went to an old friend’s birthday dinner on Saturday night at En Japanese Brasserie. I’m glad the festivities took place there because I was reintroduced to the modern and airy Japanese resto. I hadn’t been there in over 2 years. The night was filled with great conversations, cool peeps, terrific food and wonderful service.
En Japanese Brasserie is more than meets the eye. When you take time to review the menu you see that this authentic Japanese eatery has a very broad appeal. If you’re vegan, a vegetarian, in the mood for sushi or even fried chicken- they have it covered! There wasn’t anything I tried that I didn’t like.
The elegant yet laid back resto delivers creative and tasty tapas-style Japanese dishes in a unique setting. The open kitchen adds a level of excitement to the main dining room, and if you want something a bit more intimate, they have tatami rooms that are tucked away in the back.
En will definitely be added to my Japanese resto rotation. And the next time I go I’ll try the tofu!
