Pop-up dining experiences are all the rage in NYC! In November, I featured my experience at “The Thirst”- a secret dinner and cocktail party that was hosted by chef Todd English. Today, I want to share details about a more unique pop-up dining event that’s headed to Manhattan.
Cochon 555 is a one-of-a-kind traveling culinary competition and tasting event–five chefs, five pigs, five wine makers–to promote sustainable farming of heritage breed pigs. Each stop along the ten-city tour offers hard-working local farmers the opportunity to connect with like-minded agriculturalists, renowned chefs and the pork-loving public. Cochon 555 is the only heritage breed pig culinary competition in the country.
Lucky for us, Cochon 555 will be in NYC on January 23rd at the Lighthouse, Hudson River and 23rd! Each event provides pig-loving epicureans with a sampling of pork dishes served with wines from five different small wineries. After the tasting, guests and a panel of 20 judges vote for the winning local chef (the Prince or Princess of Porc) who will travel to the FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen to compete in the finale for the title of King or Queen. Guests have the opportunity to eat well and be part of an amazing food and wine community while supporting sustainable agriculture.

Is it Oktoberfest? No….but let’s act like it is because these dogs and wieners are too good to pass up! The sausage and bratwurst bar from the folks at “Klee” offers a variety of classic and unique sausages.
They do a great job of pairing different mustards with the meat. For those of you who aren’t carnivores, there’s still a lil’ something for ya: pretzels, pickles, spinach and tofu dip, salads, and sweets.
It’s mostly about “THE SIP” in this post. I went to the ultra-charming new cocktail lounge, Weather Up in Tribeca on Monday night. I’m glad this Brooklyn-born spot decided to cross the bridge. When you first walk in, to the right is the bar, and part of it is laced with all the fixin’s for a mixologist to get busy. The spot isn’t small but definitely has a personal feel. You almost feel like you’re hanging out at a friend’s apartment.
